Gardner Village

I took Cherry's advice from one of her comments, and took my camera on a day-long adventure to Gardner Village with my mom, sister, and daughter. It is a quaint village built in honor of one of my ancestors, Archibald Gardner. Archibald built 36 mills, mostly gristmills, in Utah, Canada, Wyoming, and Idaho that were built without nails--wooden pins and mortises were used instead. He also built hundreds of miles of canals and bridges. Archibald's life is memorialized at Gardner Village with a restored gristmill, restaurant, shops, and monument. The village is very festive around the holidays and at Halloween it is decorated with all kinds of animated witches and fun decor. You can't help but catch the spirit of Halloween while visiting...

Here's the monument dedicated to Archibald "Archie":

In Memory of Archibald Gardner
Born at Kilsyth,
Stirlingshire Scotland
Sept 2, 1814
Died in S. L. City Feb 8, 1902
Noble, Generous, Kind, and True to All
Pioneer of 1847

Here's a fun fact...When Archibald and his wife Margaret arrived in Salt Lake and got their first view of the valley, he asked her how she liked it. And guess what? She sat down and cried! LOL. But together they forged ahead and built a legacy.

The restored mill:
There were witches everywhere!

At the ballpark...
In the sky!
Dangling from trees...Popping out of buildings...
Cooking in the kitchen...
And they were even in the outhouses! LOL.
The landscaping is beautiful, too...
Now here's a creative twist to gardening...Bath anyone?
And Halloween just isn't Halloween without pumpkins! Lots and lots of pumpkins...We are blessed to live in a community where I can not only tell our children about our ancestry, but show them a piece of our heritage as well.

What a terrific, terrific post! Yeah, I know bad writing. phf. I truly enjoyed this. Wonderful witches all around. They are so fun and colorful. Oh, and that poor man's wife! She actually cried. How sad is that?

Jeni, for some reason I was not getting alerts when you posted to this blog. Sorry for not commenting. Those witches are adorable! They made the bodies so varied and fun. Glad you had a great day!

Those witches are great! What talent to pose them like that. I really loved the layered shelves of pumpkins with the cornstalks? on top. Frameable! :-)

Miss Daisy,
Looks like a great place to visit, I hope they provided a good restroom, one without a witch reading in it. Love all those pumpkins, just spectacular!

I love Gardner Village. Everytime we go, the boys have to see the mill.

I'm a decendant of Archie Gardner too. (I wonder if people called him Archie.) We get there about once a year and are overdue. Thanks for the tour of the witches. It's a fun place to spend a couple of hours.
